Cake Smash & First Birthday Photos

What is it that we love about First Birthdays - well the cake smash tradition of course.  I know they are messy and for lovers of cake it may seem a travesty to waste a perfectly good cake by smearing it all over the table, floor or a baby face.  But if you are like most parents a cake smash is an endearing sweet memory we hold in our hearts. Here is a collection of photos from a recent session. Looking for some suggestions for a successful Cake Smash photo session? Check out our studio tips below.

Cake Smash Tip for heading to a photo sessions or photographing yourself.

Cake Smash Tip #1  Plan ahead to have a special cake baked just for smashing. Some bakeries make slightly smaller Smash Cakes for Baby's 1st birthday.
Cake Smash Tip #2  Pick something washable to wear yes for you and the baby.  Some icings contain Crisco or butter and do not always wash out easily.
Cash Smash Tip #3  Take your First Birthday Photos first & plan a change of clothes.
Cake Smash Tip #4  Set up - If you are photographing yourself, a High Chair, a child sized table & chairs, even a blanket in the grass will help contain your little one's cake attack.
Cake Smash Tip #5  Be patient sometimes it takes a while for babies to get into it literally, especially if your baby has never eaten a cupcake or slice of cake.
Cake Smash Tip #6  A wet wash cloth and a towel will come in very handy.
Cake Smash Tip #7  Have a larger plastic bag on the ready for "messy cake" clothes.
Cake Smash Tip #8  Pick a light bright location to capture all the fun or call in the professionals.
Cake Smash Tip #9  Have fun First Birthday and Cake Smashes are childhood milestones you won't want to miss.
